It’s important to choose wisely when buying a car. Because this is a pricey investment – and something you probably intend to have for a long time – you have to know that you’re getting the right vehicle. If you have your eye on a used Mazda vehicle, make sure to take a test drive before deciding which one to buy. And during the test drive, these are the areas to pay special attention to:

Comfort

Before you even turn the key, consider the comfort of the interior. Because, presumably, you’ll be behind the wheel often, you’ll want comfortable and supportive seats. If many people will regularly be in the vehicle, gauge its spaciousness and how everybody will fit.

Handling

When it’s time to drive, immediately focus on how the car handles as you drive around the lot. Is it easy to maneuver? Does it provide sharp steering? How’s the braking power? Once you get out on the road, take some turns and curves to see how it responds.

Power

Even if you don’t do a lot of highway driving, you should get on there for the test drive. Put the pedal to the metal (but in a safe manner) to see how the car accelerates and how easily it can pass slower traffic.

Tech and Safety

While you of course need to pay attention to the road, you also need to evaluate the tech components. See how easy it is to operate the infotainment system. Test out the stereo. And if the vehicle has safety features like lane keep assist or blind spot monitoring, see what it’s like to use them.
